Lighter mowing with helium-filled tracks

Lighter mowing with helium-filled tracks

At De Vries Cornjum BV, we’re always looking ahead. In our search for even more soil-friendly solutions for nature management, we’ve tested a bold and promising idea: filling the steel tracks of our machines with helium gas.

Our machines are designed for ultra-low ground pressure – essential in sensitive environments such as peatlands, wetlands and reed beds. But how do you further reduce soil impact without compromising on strength?

Our engineers analysed the closed steel tube construction used in our tracks. By filling these with an inert, lightweight gas like helium, we’ve developed a lighter undercarriage with improved weight distribution and reduced surface pressure.

The structure remains strong, torsion-resistant and durable, and is fully compatible with our existing track systems. The first prototype segment is equipped with a fill valve and is currently being field tested.

This innovation aligns with our mission: working in harmony with nature, with full respect for load capacity, soil structure and ecology.
